This week in images, photographers from the diaspora’s Black Lens captured a variety of the slices of life we all experience. In some cases triumphant, in others emotional. In each, however, who we are shines through.
Some, of course, we know about very well like Chance The Rapper donating $1 million to help students in Chicago’s Public Schools after what he described as an unsuccessful meeting with Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner on school funding. The money he’s giving will go to CPS arts and enrichment programs.
Others thrilled us like the San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard, who put himself squarely in the NBA league MVP conversation when he sinked an out-of-this world three-pointer against the Houston Rockets, then blocked James Harden’s rebound layup shot.
We listened intently when Rep. Elijah Cummings sat down with President Trump to talk about handling prescription drug costs in a new congressional proposal, but he certainly made his point about the commander-in-chief’s incendiary racial rhetoric over the past year.
And still, we managed to shed a tear through our clown makeup as the Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus prepares its final performances after a 146-year run. Johnathan Lee Iverson, the show’s first African-American ringmaster, was captured talking about the closing show with Newark mayor Ras Baraka.
